Prince Edward Island Targets Two Sectors With 24 Canada Immigration Invitations

Prince Edward Island has issued invitations to apply for 24 candidates to immigrate to Canada for skilled workers in a new provincial lottery.

The February 29 draw had invitations issued through Labor Impact and Express Entry Prince Edward Island Provincial Candidate Program (PEI PNP) current.

Invitations were made to individuals working in the Health and Construction sectors.

PEI launched it Expression of interest system at the beginning of 2018 and has done monthly pull since then, with some interruptions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

PEI issued 2,423 invitations in 2023, up from 1,853 during 2022.

Of the 2023 invitations, 2,359 went to Labor Impact and Express Entry candidates, with 64 remaining for Business Impact candidates.


Prince Edward Island Express Entry Flow

PEI’s Express Entry category operates by considering candidates already in the Federal Express Entry Pool for a provincial appointment.

Such nomination adds 600 points to the candidate Comprehensive ranking system (CRS) marks and effectively guarantees a Invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian immigration.

The PEI Express Entry category contains two pathways to Canadian permanent residence, one for candidates with a job offer and one for those without.


Prince Edward Island Labor Impact Category

1) The flow of qualified workers

This employer-led stream allows qualified workers with an offer of employment in PEI to be nominated for Canadian permanent residence if they meet the following criteria:

  • An offer of full-time employment from a Prince Edward Island business in an occupation classified as TEER category 0, 1, 2 or 3 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC);
  • Completion of a post-secondary education, with a minimum of 14 years of formal education;
  • From the age of 21 to 55 years;
  • At least 2 years of full-time work experience in the last 5 years;
  • Sufficient knowledge of English or French to occupy the position of employment offered;
  • Sufficient funds for repayment;
  • Demonstrated intent to settle in Prince Edward Island.

2) The flow of critical workers

This category was created to address labor shortages and is open to foreign workers already in PEI with employment in specific occupations with critical demand. The main criteria for nomination are:

  • A full-time job offer from a Prince Edward Island business in one of the following occupations:
    • Truck driver;
    • Customer service representative;
    • Worker;
    • Food and beverage server;
    • Housekeeper.
  • 6 months work experience with Prince Edward Island business providing employment;
  • Current valid Canadian work permit;
  • High school diploma and minimum 12 years of formal education;
  • From the age of 21 to 55 years;
  • At least 2 years of full-time work experience in the last 5 years;
  • Demonstrate basic English or French language skills;
  • Sufficient funds for repayment;
  • Demonstrated intent to settle in Prince Edward Island.
